Apa Itu Simple Present Tense?

Simple Present Tense adalah bentuk kalimat yang digunakan untuk menyatakan: kegiatan rutin atau kebiasaan, fakta umum, jadwal tetap, perasaan atau keadaan sekarang.

Contoh:

I study English every day.

She works in a hospital.

The sun rises in the east.

He likes coffee.

Fungsi Simple Present Tense

a) Menyatakan Kebiasaan

Digunakan untuk aktivitas yang dilakukan secara rutin.

Contoh:

I wake up at 5 a.m.

They play football every Sunday.

She reads a book before sleeping.

b) Menyatakan Fakta Umum

Digunakan untuk hal yang selalu benar.

Contoh:

Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.

The earth moves around the sun.

Cats like milk.

c) Menyatakan Jadwal Tetap

Digunakan untuk jadwal transportasi, sekolah, dan acara.

Contoh:

The train leaves at 7 p.m.

School starts at 7 a.m.

The meeting begins at 10 o’clock.

d) Menyatakan Perasaan atau Keadaan

Digunakan untuk state verbs seperti like, know, love, want, need.

Contoh:

I like chocolate.

She knows the answer.

We need more time.

Rumus Simple Present Tense

1. Kalimat Positif

Subject + main verb (s/es) + Object

Contoh:

1) I work every day.

2) You study English.

3) He works in Jakarta.

4) She teaches students.

(Gunakan s/es untuk subject: he, she, it)

2. Kalimat Negatif

Subject + do/does + not + main verb

Contoh:

1) I do not like tea.

2) They do not play chess.

3)  He does not work here.

4) She does not drive a car.

3. Kalimat Tanya

Do/Does + Subject + main verb?

Contoh:

1) Do you speak English?

2) Do they live here?

3) Does he play football?

4) Does she cook every day?

Aturan Penambahan Penulisan Simple Present Tense (S/ES)

Tambahkan -s Untuk sebagian besar kata kerja seperti:

play → plays

read → reads

work → works

Tambahkan -es untuk kata kerja berakhiran: s, sh, ch, x, o

go → goes

watch → watches

wash → washes

fix → fixes

Kita perlu mengubah y menjadi ies jika sebelum y adalah konsonan:

study → studies

try → tries

Adverbs of Frequency yang Sering Dipakai

always = selalu

usually = biasanya

often =sering

sometimes = kadang-kadang

rarely = jarang

never = tidak pernah

every day = setiap hari

every week = setiap minggu

Positive Sentences

Negative Sentences

Salah:

Benar:
