Mengajar Bahasa Inggris di kelas percakapan (conversation class) akan sangat menguji kemampuan seorang guru untuk berbicara. Karena jika seorang guru tidak memiliki kemampuan Bahasa Inggris yang baik, bagaimana bisa mempengaruhi siswanya bisa berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris.

Di dalam kelas percakapan, seorang guru Bahasa Inggris harus bisa menyiapkan berbagai macam strategi agar murid dapat berbicara. Salah satu strateginya adalah menyiapkan berbagai macam pertanyaan. Berikut ini adalah pertanyaan untuk conversation class (kelas percakapan) bertemakan tentang keluarga (Family ties).
Sebelum membahas pertanyaannya, silakan lihat lesson plan yang saya buat di dalam table berikut. Lesson plan ini saya buat sama dengan postingan sebelumnya, hanya saja berbeda topik materinya. Namun jika ada masukan atau pendapat dari bapak-ibu guru silakan ditambahkan sendiri. Barangkali ada teknik yang lebih menyenangkan yang bisa diaplikasikan di dalam kelas.

1. Teacher opens the class with smile and cheer
2. Teacher asks students’ condition such as How
is it doing?
3. Teacher tells to students that topic of the
class is family ties
4. Teacher tells students related to vocabularies
which can be used such as: sibling, spouse, nuclear family, blended
family, extended family, reunion, stepsister, ancestor, half-brother,
in-laws.
5. Teacher asks to students whether they have
difficulties with the vocabularies or not and teachers explain the meaning of
each word.
6. After explaining the vocabularies, teacher
pairs students.
7. Teacher distributes the questions list of
paper for every pair of students.
8. Teacher explains the instruction to students.
9. Asking them to begin the interview.
10. When students are doing the interview,
teacher monitor and give feedback, if they have wrong pronunciation, grammar
or else.
11. At the end of the class, teacher asks one of
students to retell again about their partner home.

Karena Teknik yang digunakan adalah interview dan roleplay, bapak ibu guru silakan salin pertanyaan tersebut pada kertas dan dibagikan kepada setiap siswa. Pertanyaan itu akan digunakan oleh mereka untuk saling bertanya dengan pasanganya.
