Apa itu Adverb connector? Ada apa saja contoh-contoh adverb connector pada skill ini dan bagaimana menggunakannya? Yuk kita simak penjelasan berikut ini.

Apa itu adverb connectors?

Adverb connectors adalah kata-kata yang berfungsi sebagai penghubung adverbial clause, mirip dengan connector waktu atau sebab di Skill 7, tapi fokus pada ide lain seperti perbandingan atau syarat. Mereka selalu memulai dependent clause (connector + S + V) yang tidak bisa berdiri sendiri dan biasanya dipisah koma dari main clause.

 Dalam TOEFL Skill 8, ini mencakup kategori kontras (misalnya although), kondisi (provided), cara (as), dan tempat (where). Penggunaan salah sering muncul di soal pilihan ganda, di mana Anda harus tambahkan Subject + Verb (kata kerja) setelah connector.

 Contoh: 

Although it was raining, the students continued the lesson.

Kalimat di atas terdapat adverb connector although yang ditulis di awal kalimat. Setelah itu ada subject (it) dan kata kerja (was raining). Kemudian dipisah dengan koma, dan dilanjutkan kalimat kedua yang juga terdapat subject (students) dan kata kerja (continued).

Kalau kita baca contoh nomor 1 sampai dengan 10, posisi Adverb Connector, seperti although, if, as if, while, dll, bisa di letakan awal kalimat dan di tengah kalimat.  

- Jika di awal kalimat, maka perlu menambahkan koma untuk memisahkan masing-masing clause nya. 

- Jika di tengah kalimat, maka tidak perlu ditambah koma.
